I can’t think when I have no ink!

Let me tell you about a frustrating experience I had a few years ago. I was an office manager for a mid-sized non-profit organization and I was waiting for an important phone call with specific details I needed to relay to the director. The phone call came and I reached for one of the pens in my pen bucket and started to write. It was dry, no ink. I quickly grabbed another pen, again, no ink. Right about now panic started to set in. I asked the lady on the phone if she could repeat what she had just told me and I grabbed a third pen. To my absolute horror, there was no ink. By this time I was ready to pull out my hair, scream, smash my computer and cry out of frustration. I got off the phone with some weird indentations on the paper that were illegible. I would have to report to my boss that I failed to receive the information she was waiting for. How did I pick the only three pens from two dozen that did not write? Being a curious person, I checked all the pens in the bucket. 14 out of 20 were not writing. They were all cheap plastic recyclable pens and that’s where they all ended up going – to the recycle bin. I went online and searched for a good pen. I found a space pen, but I wasn’t going to space so I thought I’d get that another time. I found a luxury pen for about $250, it had a great story behind it. It was made of quality materials and it wasn’t disposable, it was refillable. Now there’s a great concept. It was pricey but I went for it, that was 6 years ago. I still have that pen and I use it everyday. It’s my most reliable, and favourite pen that’s still going strong. I keep refills on hand as I’m still the office manager, (knock on wood), and I do a lot of handwriting even in this digital age. I found having a beautiful pen to write with has made writing a very enjoyable experience, maybe even more creative. I haven’t been out of ink more than 6 years, buying that pen was a great investment in me.

  1. I haven’t checked in here for some time as I thought it was getting boring, but the last several posts are great quality so I guess I’ll add you back to my daily bloglist. You deserve it my friend 🙂
